Four Police Constables have been arrested in collection with
the alleged custodial death of a murder suspect here.
Ashok Bhosale, Anil Sangale, Dwarkanath Karale and Prakash Salve - attached to
the Crime Detection Unit in Ulhasnagar
township - were arrested yesterday by Maharashtra CID, police sources said today.
Three more policemen wanted in the case are absconding, they said.
The four were booked under IPC Sections 304(2) (culpable homicide not amounting
to murder) and 331 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to extort confession),
among others. They were produced before a local court which sent them in CID
Custody till February 6.
The case relates to the death of one Narayan Rathod (38) in March last year.
Rathod was allegedly picked up in connection with the murder of his in-laws,
Govardhandas Dhalwani (71) and Kavita (66).
According to CID officials, the policemen had picked up several people,
including Narayan and his elder brother Raju, for questioning in the case.
Narayan's wife Deepa later alleged that her husband died due to torture by the
police. She also said she was made to sign on a blank paper by Senior Inspector
S P Surve. Following this, a CID probe was ordered.
