Animation Competition Final submission deadline: 12/01/2026 Submission with fee We welcome a wide range of animated short films! Animation must figure in no less than 75 percent of the picture’s running time. Any animation technique is accepted. The Best Short Award Winner will be eligible for an Academy Award® nomination the following year*. We welcome submissions of films that utilize new technologies and innovative formats, such as vertical films. *Please note that this is subject to change.

Cinematic Tokyo Competition Final submission deadline: 12/01/2026 Free submission Calling for short films that take "Tokyo" as their subject.“Tokyo” must feature in the film. You do not have to show the real Tokyo/shoot in Tokyo, however, as depictions can be based on your imagination or fiction. Examples) Films shot in and around Tokyo, Films depicting locations or objects based on the image of “Tokyo”, Films depicting Tokyo 100 years from now. The selected films for this competition will be streamed online on the official festival online venue during the festival period.

Non-Fiction Competition Final submission deadline: 12/01/2026 Submission with fee This competition seeks impactful non-fiction shorts exploring societal issues and diverse lives. The documentaries must be non-fiction films that emphasize fact over fiction, regardless of the techniques employed. Best Short Award will be eligible for nomination at the annual Academy Awards® the following year*. We welcome submissions of films that utilize new technologies and innovative formats, such as vertical films. *Please note that this is subject to change.
