Rifle stolen after criminal damage to war memorial in Cornwall

POLICE are appealing to members of the public who may have information on an incident of criminal damage on a statue in West Cornwall. 

Devon and Cornwall Police officers are investigating reports of criminal damage against a war memorial in Morrab Gardens in Penzance. 

According to police, the statue of the soldier holding a rifle was damaged between 2am and 3am on Wednesday, July 26.

The rifle that the soldier is holding has been broken off and stolen.

Enquiries are ongoing but police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information or have seen anything of note in the area

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers investigating reports of criminal damage at the War Memorial in Morrab Gardens are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

"It’s reported that between 2am and 3am on Wednesday 26 July the statue of the soldier holding a rifle was damaged. The rifle has been broken off the statue and stolen.

"Enquiries remain ongoing but we are appealing to the public who may have any information or seen anything of note in the area to report it to us.
