Hello 1600 instructors!

Please scroll down to see a list of athletes, from Lexi Walters, that will be traveling to the OSU/Washington game this weekend.

Please extend any deadlines due this weekend for anyone on that list.

Have a good Friday!

Best,
Clayton

As these competitions are officially sanctioned University events, we ask that the absences they created be treated as excused. University rule 3335-9-22 (C) asks instructors to “make reasonable efforts to assist students” in such cases and stipulates that the student is responsible for material covered in class during the absence.

Like all students, student-athletes are responsible for communicating effectively with their instructors regarding their academic work. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss any missed-class time due to athletic commitments with you directly and make up any necessary assignments. If remote options for participation are available, every effort will be made to use them; however, travel schedule and competition logistics may not allow for that in all instances.

Thank you for considering this request.  We recognize the challenges that missed class time presents to instructors as well as to students, and we work hard to minimize competitions’ impact on students’ ability to be successful in the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns about the University rule, or an individual student-athlete, please do not hesitate to contact me as the Faculty Athletics Representative.

Kind regards,
Dr. John E. Davidson (david...@osu.edu)

PS — As outlined in the Impermissible-Communication Guideline of Ohio State’s Institutional Governance Standards, Athletic Department staff members may not contact faculty members concerning the academics of a student-athlete. Students are primarily responsible for communicating with instructors about their coursework. Any further communication with faculty members regarding the academics of a student-athlete may only be conducted by members of the SASSO staff or, as needed, the Faculty Athletics Representative or the Athletic Compliance Office. Faculty members are encouraged to report impermissible communication or attempted influence by Athletics Department staff or boosters to the Faculty Athletics Representative, John Davidson (.92).
