Hello instructors!

As you know Classes begin on Tuesday August 26, 2025.

Here are a few reminders about things to do before next Tuesday.

The only way students online will know the name of their instructor is from an email in which you introduce yourself and a little orientation. Here are a few samples of this kind of communication. You will need to publish your course. Feel free to adapt them to your way of writing such a message: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ittylcr69qdgvhoczbz8g/AKZICm8R-cWE0noYoj2VdjQ?rlkey=barsi3tkqpsd11iuv79ayzklf&dl=0

Students need to know early on:
That there is no book to buy. Everything your students need to study for 1600 is either in Carmen or our course website at http://aaep1600.osu.edu .

The official course schedule is in the Syllabus (on the website). Carmen's Calendar also includes a dashboard of dates that students usually follow. You can add reminders to Carmen's calendar in the form of "events."

If you have not done so already, Please set up discussion groups. If you don't, grading your weekly discussion after Week 03 will be a nightmare. Here is a video that shows how to do this: https://vimeo.com/353824869/668813757a?ts=0&share=copy

You will receive emails from Student Life Disability Services (SLDS) about special access and accommodations. Here is another video about setting up special access for those students: https://vimeo.com/355379413/2794befc8e?ts=0&share=copy

You should familiarize yourselves with course content on the course website http://aaep1600.osu.edu. Start with the Guidebook (top menu). There are 13 chapters, one for each week and each goes with a quiz and Web Lecture videos in Carmen.

Group Discussions are organized with students typing a response to the prompt in the first week of the discussion and then students respond to each other in the second week.  Quizzes are clustered so students may organize their time, in fact, many students work ahead of schedule.

I would like to meet on Zoom sometime with instructors, especially the new ones. So I'll be sending out an invitation to see when most are available.

That's all for now. I'll be in touch with more later. Additional support is available at this link: https://teaching.resources.osu.edu/toolsets/carmencanvas

Anything else you need to know? Please ask me.

I'm here to help!!
