Software Development Engineer

 

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to develop, test, and maintain cloud-native applications alongside experienced senior engineers. You take ownership of well-scoped tasks, write clean code, and continuously learn modern engineering practices — including AI-assisted development. You are technically strong, curious, and eager to grow fast in a high-performing team.

 

Key Responsibilities

–    Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Node.js and Python on Google Cloud Platform.

–    Develop frontend features and components using React and TypeScript.

–    Write clean, well-tested code that responds constructively to code review and follows agreed standards.

–    Collaborate with senior engineers to decompose features, understand architectural context, and contribute to design decisions.

–    Use AI coding assistants to accelerate implementation while maintaining code quality and correctness.

–    Implement and maintain unit and integration tests as part of every feature.

–    Participate in GitLab CI/CD workflows — understand pipelines, contribute fixes, and flag issues.

–    Apply basic authentication and authorisation patterns in service implementations.

–    Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and communicate blockers proactively.

 

Must-Have Skills

✓   3+ years of professional software engineering in production environments.

✓   Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript.

✓   Backend development with Node.js — building and consuming REST APIs.

✓   Frontend development with React — components, state, API integration.

✓   Cloud fundamentals on GCP or another major cloud platform.

✓   Familiarity with Microservices or Serverless patterns.

✓   Git version control and branching practices; exposure to GitLab CI/CD.

✓   Unit testing — writes tests as part of development, not as an afterthought.

✓   Understanding of authentication and authorisation fundamentals.

✓   AI-assisted coding tools in day-to-day workflow.

✓   Demonstrated learning agility — picks up new tools, frameworks, and contexts quickly.

 

Nice-to-Have Skills

○    GKE or Kubernetes basics — deploying and debugging containerised workloads.

○    BigQuery — writing analytical queries, understanding table structures.

○    Terraform fundamentals.

○    Vertex AI or Gemini API usage in application code.
