Rust Hot Air Balloon

TheHot Air Balloon (HAB), introduced on 11/1/2018 in The Hot Air Balloon Update, is the fourth aerial vehicle to be introduced to RUST and the first to be officially pilotable by players. They are a relatively common sight on the RUST landscape, and, sadly, often overlooked by players that would rather take more easily controlled modes of transportation.

The balloons will appear deflated and spread out while on the ground and the burner not engaged, and can be seen for miles when fired, basket standing upright, with an open doorway facing outward and a full canopy clashing against the sky.

Relatively straightforward, the HAB fuel system can hold up to 500 Low Grade Fuel at any given time, which is the maximum stack size by default. Please reference Refueling the HAB for details on how to add or remove fuel from this vehicle.

The Hot Air Balloon Armor is an item for enhancing the vehicle itself. This item is an optional, equipable cabin cover for the standard Hot Air Balloon. When equipped, the armor provides additional protection for the cabin, adds additional health, and even provides a door. Strangely, once equipped, the balloon armor cannot be removed again, as you might expect it to be.

The RUST Hot Air Balloon can be repaired 30 seconds after it last took damage. This requires using a Hammer and having Cloth in your inventory. Each repair swing will repair up to 61 damage. Anyone within range, regardless of elevation status, may repair the HAB.

The Hot Air Balloon starts out with a total of 1500 health and will slowly decay over 180 minutes. This is the default decay period, but it is modifiable through server variables. The housing or storage of a Hot Air Balloon is virtually impractical, given that until it is at a relatively high altitude, it is very difficult to control. Most players would rather find a freely spawned HAB than attempt to keep one at base.

The Hot Air Balloon currently spawns with 1500 Hit Points, and all calculations were done based on that. While fire-based ballistics are included, their damage is impact-based only, as this vehicle is immune to fire damage over time.

From zombie survival to weird naked cave-jerk game to hot air balloons and anti-air missiles, the evolution of Rust has been a strange one to behold. Facepunch's previous few updates to the sandbox survival craft n' shooter have focused on new and expanded NPC factions and their territory, but the latest has its head in the clouds. Scattered around Rust's plains are pre-assembled hot air balloons, ready to fly if you can fuel them up. They can hold items and a handful of passengers, but perhaps aren't the best weapon of war yet, as you can see in the amusing clip below.

While not quite as sweeping as the scientist or bandit town updates, the hot air balloons feel like a push in an interesting direction for the game. Now it feels there's more at stake than just smashing rocks, working your way up to rivals and shooting each other. Plus, I'm just tickled by the idea of buying plans for an improvised anti-air missile battery from the scientist faction, and popping some balloons. The patch notes do warn that the anti-air system is automated and indiscriminate, so you might want to unload it if you're planning on taking a flight yourself.

As captured by YouTube channel "Puddy's Place", there's still a few kinks to be worked out regarding balloons. Their physics don't quite seem to gel with thrown items yet. In short, if you're in the sky, then some days it's just hard to get rid of a bomb. This update has also smoothed over some exploits and fixes some oversights. The cool tactical gloves comically removed all aim-sway - it's been reduced to a (still powerful, but less overpowered) 80% steadying effect. Pumpkins should no longer breed out of control and radiation should now penetrate clothes and wetsuits better.

Facepunch have also upgraded the cargo ship run by the scientist faction. Now it's full of loot and goodies that respawn in waves, but all guarded by (presumably also respawning) heavily armed scientist NPCs. A naked lunatic with an axe is going to die, but an organised squad with decent rifles might be able to raid it - possibly repeatedly over the course of a multi-day game. As Rust is expanding out to the sky and sea, they've made the water more realistic too, and waves can buffet you around. It's another big, tangible patch, and you can check the full notes out here.

Rust differs from other games because it focuses on player interaction and emergent gameplay. This means the game is constantly changing and evolving based on the players' actions. As a result, Rust is a truly unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else.

But be careful because you only get five players inside at once (unless customized); decay times will vary depending on server settings. In the game, hot air balloons are one of the main methods of traversing the map, but everyone can't access them.

The ignition is the red button on top of your hot air balloon basket. You'll need to press it throughout the flight to avoid any accidents with the balloons. To start the engine, you must hold the "F" key while standing next to the basket.

The fuel storage and engine are in the back of the hot air balloon basket. To fill the fuel tank, you must right-click on a gasoline canister. The engine will automatically consume gasoline as you fly.

The flag and windsock are located at the front of the hot air balloon basket. The flag is used to signal your location to other players, and the windsock is used to help you identify the wind direction.

When you fly a hot air balloon, it is crucial to know the wind's direction. This can help with landing and navigating when on the ground as well. The flags are red (for North), white (west), or yellow-green (South).

Hot air balloons are a great way to travel across the map quickly. They can also be used to escape dangerous situations or get a better view of the map. Plus, they offer a unique and exciting new way for players to get into the game.

It can be used as an emergency location device, providing help when you need it most. The update also adds more interactions with this item to your team or party. You might even use one instead of walking/running if there's no other option .

We recommend that first-time hot air balloon users check their balloons before flying them to ensure they are repaired, as the speed of their balloon will be very sluggish if they aren't. Still, they give you a significant advantage because of their heights and ability to spot enemies from afar.

A moderator or administrator is the only one who can produce and control a hot air balloon. Other users can see them, but they cannot be controlled by anybody else. To pilot a hot air balloon, you must ensure it is in good health and that the ignition controls the balloon using wind speed and the flags to determine your direction.

You can travel quickly and efficiently across the map with a hot air balloon in Rust. The hot air balloon is a great way to get around, and it is also a great way to escape dangerous situations. They are a unique and exciting new way for players to get into the game.
