Hello everyone, has anyone else noticed a problem when trying to fire
the missles. They seem to be not triggering when I try to use them.
They will eventually fire, but I have to wait a short while before
they will work. and the other weapons and icons all seem to work fine
though.

and I thought of a few changes that could be made.

I think that instead of holding down an achievement for information,
it should be changed to a tap. so all you have to do is tap to the
icon to get the information, then you can tap it again to hide it or
tap on another achievement. Plus the touch icon for details will make
more sense.

I also have some suggestions for the guide and manual icons. Make the
guide icon a computer and make the manual icon a folder like a windows
folder icon with some files sticking out of it.

Anyone like these ideas or had a problem with the missiles? - Kevin

The latest guide has a better picture of how missile targeting works:
The missile locks on to the closest enemy target in front of AND at the
same altitude of the helicopter.

If I made it modal, I would likely need to remove how it appears above
your finger. Then you would need to move your finger to view it.

I dislike the idea of making it modal as it adds two actions rather than
just touch and release it becomes touch, lift, move away, tap

Nice ideas.

I've asked the artist for a fold out and book icons. Depending on how
these turn out, I may pass your ideas along.

Thank you,

Yes, I have a problem as well firing air to air missiles, the ground
missiles seem to work okay...at least I don't recall having a problem
with them, but i have noticed that I can be repeatedly tapping the air
to air missiles and nothing will happen.

I have a suggestion with the edged buttons. I really love how you
have them dimmed now, but I was going to suggest that when they are
pressed, instead of highlighting the area underneath in green, how
about having the edges themselves get briefly brighter?

Also, wanted to say YAY! I won 2 campaigns today and earned some
acheievements!!! Don't laugh you 5-star Armor Alley generals...lol.
This was the first time for victories for me...I played more patiently
today and stopped risking my copter so much.

Missiles work as follows:
- Find the next non-friendly object horizontally in front of the
helicopter.
-- If the object top is above the helicopter bottom and the object
bottom is bellow the helicopter top target the object.
-- Otherwise, repeat.

I have not seen a problem with missile targeting in decades. You can
practice on the barrage balloons.

Hope this helps,

-Arthur

I've made this change for the next release. :)

I've experienced the air to air missiles not responding to touches
when I have an enemy helicopter on screen with me and at my same
level. Some times you can just be mashing that button and nothing
happens :(

Everyone, does this happen to anyone else?

I assume, that control highlights when you touch it, but the missile
doesn't fire?

I also assume, you don't have problems with bombs and machine guns?

Unfortunately, I'm going to need more clues to solve it:

Does this happen on a fresh helicopter's first missile?

Does this happen after resupplying?

Does this happen only on the second missile?

Can you then fire at a different target?

Does this ever fail on balloons? Or, any other target?

Thanks for bringing this up,

-Arthur

I'm wondering, since it seems a few of us have been confused by the missile firing system, maybe there should be some visual feedback for when a lock-on occurs?  Maybe have the missile button light up, or have the words "missile lock" appear at the top (below the radar), or something like that?  I realize the explanation is in the guide/manual, but first, players often don't read those, and second, even with those explanations, it's not always clear when you have a missile lock, other than by estimating (if off-screen) or eyeballing it (if on-screen), or simply by frantically tapping the button to see if something fires (heh, something I'm often doing).

I don't think there's a problem with missiles firing - I think it's confusion about how it works - see my other email about this.

I'm wondering - is it possible that it's not firing because the AI heli moves so frantically?  Maybe when you're pressing, the heli happens to just move out of range (and the range is pretty narrow to begin with)?  As Arthur said, the best way to practice is on the balloons or on ground vehicles.  I haven't really had any problems with missiles other than it's difficult to lock on to the AI heli because he just moves so up and down so much.

Hi Dave,

I very much like the idea of providing better feedback.

I'll see what I can do. :)

Thank you!,

Version 200907231 of Armor Alley now highlights the locked target. :)

To be clear:
To repeatedly attempt to fire a missile, hold the missile control down.

Finally checked this out - I like the red highlight, but it doesn't help with objects that are off screen (which is where it would really be useful).  Maybe add something for that as well?  Just highlighting the button or showing "missile target lock" or something would suffice I think.

You can tell, if the missile is locked, by pressing the fire missile
control. ;) If it doesn't fire, no harm no foul.

It has been suggested, that I show on the radar what is targeted. I
could trivially make items blink red/yellow.

However, the real issue is will this make the game less frustrating and
more fun? I think a part of the game is deciding to wait for a clear
shot or taking a chance or maneuvering for a better shot.

Cheers,

-Arthur

True, but that applies to targets up close as well.

Maybe that would work - might be too unnoticeable as well (and might
not understand what it means)

Yeah, but will users think missile firing isn't working or just that
it's not locking on? Guess it depends on whether they read the guide/
manual.

Just wanted to say that I really like the red halo around targets. I
thought it made it a lot clearer on when to launch air to air
missiles.

Hmm, making objects blink on the radar when targeted by missiles could
certainly prove interesting...especially if it was done for items
targeted by the aa trucks. Although, I would suggest a different
color than red/yellow just because we are already yellow...it might
make things confusing to some people.

I think I may have mis-communicated: I want to highlight on the radar,
the target that a missile would lock on to if the player launched a
missile.

I think the feedback from on screen locks explains how missiles lock on
targets at their height.

Thank you,

I think the feedback from on screen locks will make apparent the
behavior of locking on without reading.

Thank you,
