Hello birders,
While hiking in the Fells today, my husband and I came across a delightful surprise — a Cooper’s Hawk nest with at least three young, bright eyed and shuffling around. One parent was spotted nearby, and briefly visited the nest while we were watching. (We think a second parent was also nearby, but didn’t get a good enough look at it.) It was an exciting first for us.
I’m assuming the guidance on all raptor nests is not to share the location, and as the Fells is a big place I hope that I haven’t misstepped by sharing this. But the more experienced birders please let me know if I’m wrong about any of that. I’m not sure if I can share pics on the listserv, but we got a few great photos and I’m happy to send them (screenshots, so no metadata) to anyone interested.
We weren’t really birding today, but heard several ovenbirds, lots of pine warblers, and some eastern wood-pewees. Lovely, but very humid and buggy, morning in the woods.
