Hi Folks,
As many of you know, wildlife entanglements and injury caused by improper disposal of monofilament fishing line and fishing tackle (lures, hooks, weights...) is on the rise throughout the local area, the Commonwealth of Massuchusetts, and the country.
As a Woburn resident and avid outdoor enthusiast, I created the Friends of Horn Pond group to help drive sustainable solutions for difficult issues affecting the Horn Pond Conservation and Recreation Area using a highly collaborative, community-based, data driven approach.
Our 1st initiative is to drive a reduction of monofilament fishing line and fishing tackle waste at Horn Pond in collaboration with Woburn City Officials, Woburn Conservation Commission, state representatives, MassWildlife, and local groups including WREN, Woburn Boys & Girls Club, Intrepid Keystone Club at Woburn High, and the local scout troops.
The official launch of our Community Awareness Campaign is underway. Our 1st flier has been posted on the Horn Pond and Community Garden bulletin boards and it has been shared with all of the afore mentioned group and Arlington Bird. Our 2nd flier is awaiting publication and posting.
Much work remains on this initiative and others over the coming days, weeks, and months. Please feel free to contact me directly for additional information or to become actively involved. Thanks!

Jim
