Birders: I thought I should join the Menotomy Bird Club again, as I think I subscribed originally under an old address <
pli...@comcast.net>. I still receive those, but it in my wife’s name (Pat Magee). We just registered to vote here, as we have moved to a Senior Residence called Camellia Garden in Maynard, Ma. Killdeer call and play out there in the construction site, and I think I wrote before that the pile of dirt was declared a Wildlife Refuge because the rare Bank Swallow nested there! As I remember not so rare along the Merrimack River in N.H.
Today we walked the dike at Great Meadows, Concord. Red-winged Blackbirds! A Bronze Grackle. A Song Sparrow singing! Leopard Frogs rattling! An experienced birder told us! Also confirmed we were seeing two Fish Crows preening each other! You could tell by their nasal caw! A Great Blue Heron we watched swallow a Sun Fish!! Whole! Of course head first! Two pair of Wood Duck swam by. A Mallard pair close. Canada Geese. Most impressive the flap flap flap of a flock of Swans taking off. About 8 birds. Told my friends they were Mute and not native. Still. Oh, an Osprey! It hovered for a moment, but didn’t dive!
Still birding at 89! Oakes
