Hey Cynthia and Ambar,

I mentioned this trail closure update during last month's BAC meeting related to a segment of the Four Mile Run Trail (between Wilson Blvd to the Bluemont Junction Trail) that was scheduled to occur during the week of Feb 15th as part of the Bluemont Park Tennis Renovations project. That work will now be commencing this week, with trail users being directed to use the parallel W&OD as a temporary detour.

Can you please share this updated detour notice with the BAC and PAC communities when you get a chance?

Thanks,
Elwyn

Hi Elwyn,

Following up on this to let you know that the contractor has begun delivering materials at Upper Bluemont Park this week (construction was delayed due to the snow/inclement weather). The restrooms have been closed to the public and the parking lot/trail will soon follow with construction fencing going up in the next few days. Just wanted to give you that heads up!

Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions.
Collin

Hi Elwyn,

Reaching out from DPR to highlight a message we just sent out to stakeholders about the Bluemont Park Tennis Renovations. We'll be starting construction in ~2 weeks (week of February 15, weather permitting) and part of the project requires blocking off a small portion of the Four Mile Run Trail. We've shared a map in the message for the detour, which involves the adjacent W&OD, and are hoping to maximize people's awareness to ensure safe travel through this area.

We'd love any opportunities for amplification through your network at BAC/Bike Arlington. Would you be able to share the message/information below at your earliest convenience with them? Please let me know if there are any organizations or stakeholders that you think should be looped in as well.

Thank you so much,
Collin

Bluemont Park Tennis Courts Construction Begins Soon

Construction for the Bluemont Park Tennis Court Renovations will begin the week of February 15, 2026, weather permitting. As construction begins, you will see fencing and other construction prep in the area. Signs will be placed at the site in high traffic areas to alert the community of closures and detours.

Key Project Details and Impacts:

During construction the tennis courts, parking lot, and a small section of the Four Mile Run Trail will be fenced off and closed to the public. Four Mile Run Trail users can use the adjacent W&OD Trail to avoid the small, closed trail segment before returning to Four Mile Run Trail. See the map below for detour information.

Other key features at Bluemont Park, including the baseball diamond, soccer field, and playground, will remain open to the public. When using these facilities we recommend parking on N Manchester St, at the southern parking lot near the park's playground, or appropriate street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Please do not park at Ashlawn Elementary School during school hours.

You can find information on other tennis court locations and availability on the County's tennis court site.

 Project Timeline & Next Steps:

  • February 2026: Construction to begin.
  • Early Fall 2027: Construction anticipated to be complete.

The project timeline is weather dependent. Please visit the Bluemont Park Tennis Court Renovations webpage to learn more about the project, review its plans and renderings, and sign up for email updates.

Staff will update that webpage as construction progresses with important updates as needed.
