Dana Bres, BAC Vice Chair

8:10 – 8:45 pm 2026 BAC Priorities
Cynthia Palmer, BAC Chair, and Dana Bres, BAC Vice Chair
Summary: We will brainstorm opportunities outside of public engagement windows that the BAC might consider. Given that Manager Schwartz and DES have advised against BAC and PAC input on specific projects, we are focused instead on the guidance that informs the county’s design decisions. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
· Trail and bike lane condition and safety assessment -- expanding the sidewalk assessment model to include bike lanes and trails
· Intersection safety assessments
· A deeper dive into signal timing across Arlington and neighboring jurisdictions
· Report-A-Problem – does it have the appropriate granularity for bike infrastructure?
· County e-bike and scooter policies
· The use of outside contractors for road and trail maintenance -- what guarantees are included, e.g. for wintertime paving work? And what are the lessons learned from the Custis moguls re-construction project – can we meet with VDOT to discuss?
· Paving plans for the next 18-24 months (what is firm about the next paving season and what might be the priorities for the season after that) and if/how BAC can weigh in
· Maintenance responsibilities for bike lanes in site plans (DES, property owner, etc.)
· Parking enforcement policies
· Ongoing MOT/construction detour challenges
· Bike lane delineation – poles, concrete pillows, and other methods of separating bike lanes from traffic lanes and sidewalks
· What projects are coming up each month that affect bike routes and infrastructure?
8:45 pm – 9:00 pm BAC Business and Announcements
· Noreen Hannigan transitioning off the BAC – thank you Noreen for your years of service!
· Transportation Project Liaisons
