Hi my friends,

Please see message from Peter Harnik (co-founder of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy) below -- and thank you to Randy Swart for forwarding.
This is important.

Please reply to Peter Harnik  ....  peterh...@gmail.com ... if you are interested in pushing back against those who wish to replace the 14th St bike lane with more/wider car lanes -- part of the effort to remove bike infrastructure deemed "hostile" to cars.

For context, here are a couple of articles.
and

If you are interested, please send a note to Peter.  Again, it's peterh...@gmail.com

Warmly,
Cynthia

Dear friend:

There are rumors that someone high in the Trump Administration wants to remove the D.C. bicycle lane between the 14th Street Bridge and Constitution Avenue (from the Jefferson Memorial to the African-American History Museum), and that it might happen in the very near future.

For the cycling (and walking and running) communities, removing bike lanes is a red line that we will not allowed to be crossed.

Just as the patriots did 250 years ago, we are establishing a Minuteman force to be instantly ready to protect this lane from removal.

The bike lane being eyed is entirely on National Park Service land. This would make it administratively easier for the Administration to act, compared with bike lanes owned by the District of Columbia. However, if this removal is successful, there is no doubt that they would turn their sights on other lanes, such as 15th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, 9th Street, 20th Street and “G† Street.

If you wish to sign up as a Minuteperson to be instantly ready for the defense of the Capital's bike lanes, please let me know by responding to this.

In solidarity,

Peter Harnik
