My understanding is that ebikes are treated the same as traditional pedal bikes in Arlington, for the most part, despite their faster speeds and heavier weights.
On roads they can travel at the class 3 max of 28 mph; on trails they can go up to 20 mph (tho some ebikes go faster); and on sidewalks (like other bikes) they're limited to 6 mph or less and must yield to pedestrians -- some neighborhoods bar ebikes from the sidewalks completely.
Is this sufficient to keep pedestrians and bicycle riders safe?
Does Arlington's Vision Zero crash data distinguish between pedal bikes and class 1, 2, and 3 ebikes?
Any reactions to the article?
Thanks, Pam, for forwarding. c.
