Some useful research on one of our favorite topics.
("Idaho Stop" is also known as "Stop as Yield" or "SAY". Which means you can confidently refer to those opposed to the idea as nay-sayers! 😁
TLDR: (selectively curated by me!)
- SAY laws were associated with reduced crash rates, particularly at suburban stop-controlled intersections and urban signal-controlled intersections.
- No significant change in reckless behaviors following the enactment of SAY laws. This suggests that such laws do not foster a disregard for traffic regulations among bicyclists.
- The built environment had a more significant impact on crash occurrence than socioeconomic factors, underlining the importance of infrastructure and urban planning in promoting bicycle safety.
