ARK preinstalled on a VM?

Hi,

I'm trying to evaluate Ark alongside other options like ArchieDB. I've never set up a server before, but have tinkered with doing this with Ark using the various guides on the Ark website together  with a few random web guides on MAMP, PEAR and so on. Unfortunately I have to report that I've had absolutely zero luck so far.

I was wondering if Ark comes preinstalled on a VM that I could run with, say, Virtualbox? Several other platforms I've been using offer this option, and it makes it much easier for new users to get an operational database up and running with minimal configuration.

Is this something that is available, or that could be made available?

THanks

Mick

Dear Mick

Thanks for the message. This is indeed something we have in the works - and will be an integral part of the new ARK 2.0 upgrade we are planning on rolling out later in the year. It is great you raised this, as it shows that there will be demand for the service! In the meantime, if you need some help setting something up specifically either post problems here - or send an email to sysa...@lparchaeology.com and we can go through some options for you?

Thanks

Stuart

Dear Stuart,

Great to hear there is a 2.0 on the way! I'll have another shot at configuring an install myself in the meantime. I'm attempting to do so via MAMP on Mac, but do you think it is easier to get it running on linux? It just seemed like there were a lot of specific environment tweaks, and when things didn't run it was difficult to understand why (at first glance, anyway).

Regards,
Mick
