I have read many of the documents and articles related to PID. I have gained a decent amount of understanding related to the same.
But I wanted to know how the PIDs can be used apart from the citation of a resource in the reference of the research materials.

I would be glad if someone can answer a few applications of PID with a basic example.

I know it can be used by Developers, Publishers, Libraries, Funders, and policymakers, etc but not sure how exactly.

Persistent actionable identifiers are useful whenever you need to
provide a resolvable address that will stay valid far into the future.
Example: If you have a business card, using a persistent identifier for
your homepage is useful because you can change the address of your home
page without making invalid the persistent identifier in the card.

Yes. An ARK (preceded by http: or https:) can be used anywhere that URLs or URIs can be used. They're just hyperlinks that are meant to be more durable than the average hyperlink.

Ok understood thanks :)
I also read that it can be used for distributed systems. I wanted to know how can it be used for Distributed Systems?
Also, if an institution which has millions of articles want to participate in the PID then how can they do should they start assigning the PID to individual article or research paper or how does that happen? since each resource should have separate PID.

I don't know about "distributed systems", but you likely read that the ARK scheme is a kind of "decentralized system". That means that you can get started (after first requesting a NAAN) by publishing ARKs (as URLs), without registering them with an external service, based at your own web service. It doesn't matter if you have dozens, hundreds, or millions of ARKs.
