Hello everyone,
We have a bit of a split here I would like to reconcile to make
everyone able to participate. Patrick and Dan are able to produce a
paper related to Antiochus III and the Syrian War against Rome.
Seth is interested in 88 BC (a century later) but can focus his
attention on Asia Minor. So am I.
Dustin has a different topic, and David is not able to go to CAMWS.
I can offer two possible topics - the coup of Marius and Cinna in 87 BC
or the Treaty of Apamea and Roman POWs (especially Scipio).
Is there a title we can use that can reconcile these topics?
Rome and Asia Minor 188 BC to 88BC ?????
I welcome your suggestions and also if you have friends who might wish
to jump in with us. Not do I have to be the chair and organizer.
NOTE: I am willing to forsake CAMWS 2012 (I have not rejoined and they
require us to rejoin to submit) and concentrate on the next deadline
instead. I really want to do an 87 BC panel with Seth in 2013 at
CAMWS-Iowa and can consider more on a similar topic in CAMWS-SS.

Seth suggests
Imperium ad Orientem: Rome and the Greek East (197-87)?
I second this nomination.
Unless anyone has an alternative, we can go with this (deadline soon).
Could Patrick, Dan, Seth, and anyone else interested share the
proposed title of their own paper and a one sentence description. I
just saw at http://www.camws.org/meeting/2012/cfp.php that the
panel deadline is 8/26.
I will submit "Greek Reactions to Roman Warfare (regarding POWs),
200-146 BC" and examine how Greeks found Romans bewilderingly fierce
and ferocious in war and in resisting capture.
I warmly invite everyone else on the CC line to consider joining this
panel if interested. And most of us are enthusiastic to do something
more at the CACW or CAPN or at other venues in 2011-12.
best wishes,
Gaius
I just wanted to apologize for the two massive emails this week. For some unknown reason my email manager decided to include all of you when it should not have. I apologize for any confusion, and steps have been taken to prevent this sort of mistake from being repeated.
I hope that the summer finds you all well and relaxed.
With best regards to all of you,
Dan
| Hello Dan, No trouble, and at least CAMWS got a working title for the session! I do hope Patrick Kent is the one doing the Seleucid paper with you, as I would be a bit unprepared! Best wishes, Patrick (Waterson) |
