BBQ this weekend?

I was thinking that we should have a get-together this weekend (Saturday) and have a BBQ!  Don't worry, vegetables are just as vulnerable to heat as meat!

Trying to figure out what the general interest is...and if anyone has recommended locations (we need at least some kind of grill).  Can potentially have some outdoor games, such as real-life foosball, frisbee, or just general all-around muckery.

Please respond if you're interested.

Also, according to Theresa, there is a meteor shower that is going to happen next Saturday - going out to the desert to watch might be a good idea.

I'd suggest starting food at 3:00 or 4:00.  But we still need a place!

I'll look up parks with grills tomorrow to see if anything is nearby.  In the meantime, does anyone know of available locations?

Half is a rose garden, the other half is green grass.  The BBQ pits are first-come first-serve, and there are only a couple, so someone would need to stake them out.

On the other hand, depending on how adventerous everyone is feeling, we could also make a day of it and head down to Santa Cruz - they have fire pits along the beach (although we'd need something to act as a grate for cooking and/or aluminum foil).

I'd personally vote for Santa Cruz, but I'm biased towards the ocean =p

If we're going to Santa Cruz we should probably bring sandwiches/picnic food rather than BBQ :o I think that will be easier to manage.

Well, Santa Cruz has firepits.  We can either

1) Get there early and grab a firepit

2) Go To Santa Cruz and bring pre-made food

3) Have a BBQ in San Jose / Santa Clara

Another option in this area is Aditya's place, I believe.

I just remembered that this Sunday is the day when the NASA robot Curiosity is going to be landing on Mars. There is a free event at the Ames Research Center where they will be showing the landing, it could be cool to check out.
