Hi People, more than one with the same problem, after change original battery. The battery in my case is the same code of original battery. Battery change maybe ok but Surface wont turn on. Anybody have the schematic board view? Thanks
see photo of control circuit of Pro4 battery from china and from LG, on the original board has chip control charging and heat sensor. replace the control board with original board can solve problem 100%
so i bought a new battery, installed, doesn't power on. Put the old battery in and it still doesn't power on. Seems to me swapping the boards at this point shouldn't work if the original battery no longer allows it to power on. no battery and external power nothing happens either. what do you think?
@whuzdaman What kind of battery did you try before? I'm considering biting the bullet and paying the high price of an iFixit battery for an SP4 because the first time around I cheaped out on an Amazon one. Would you suggest I just find a broken Surface Pro 4?
The Surface pro was dead after change the battery, many people found the same thing, not only turn on problem many of them found touch function also failure. The trick is after put new battery in place you must insert plastic sheet to isolate battery until the mainbord sit on the right position then you pull the plastic sheet, the terminals of battery and mainboard will connect to the right place. The failure of battery replacement mostly come from the battery terminals connect to the wrong pins of mainboard during moving mainboard to make it sit on right position.
Hi, did you manage to solve this issue? Having exactly the same problem. Tested the new battery, device actually worked and charged fine. Put everything together a few days later and nothing happens when trying to start it.
Hello Adrian, unfortunately I wasn't able to fix this. :-( I disassembled and assembled everything again after this with some help of a knowledgeable friend but with no luck. I ended up selling my device defective over eBay, so at least it wasn't a total loss. Sorry that I don't have better news. Johannes
it looks like each battery square has two contacts connected to the control circuit board. There are 4 small dots on each of these connections -- are these solder points? Can I just rip the contacts off and do a messy solder to the new board?
Surface pro4 can not turn on with battery but it can turn on with charging cable plug in, 99% came from schottky diode was damaged from sparking during install main borad back on place (see photo ) just replace this diode your Pro4 will be OK
Yes the diode is the issue for your particular use case, but there are so many things that can possibly go wrong with these devices that claiming this a 99% fix sounds absurd. could you provide information on how one would know the diode is faulty on their equipment using a multimeter thanks again for sharing, and look forward to your response.
1. Schottky diode failure, test by using analog multi meter with ohm x1 measure compare with the other schottky diode below ( lift the mainboard and insert plastic sheet to isolate the battery before measure )
Turns out that the first battery may not have been a genuine one, as the seller told me he had the same problem with the battery before he listed it on ebay for sale - as new but not used! suffice to say, surprised and not happy, but he gave me a refund.
Then I checked very carefully the seating of the battery onto the SP4 chasses - I made sure I lined up the tiny hole on the battery tab with the anchor on the SP4 chassis (not easy and took me a long time, as the tab needs to be very slightly arched up) and made sure all the contact brushes from the PCB above it were aligned precisely and not bent (I noticed they were bent from the original battery removal, which needed some pulling and pushing of the adhesive under the old battery tab).
As per my experience i replace the battery twice, frist one it did not work because the screen get damage even there was no scratch, this screen get damage that you can not see. So I believe your screen is the problem.
you should feel fortunate that your surface pro 4 still turns after replacing the battery, i'm looking at two surface pro 4 tablets that won't turn on after replacing batteries due unknown busted surface mount components on the logic board.
from what've read, and seen on YT these devices are / can be problematic due to faulty components related to charging and power management. it's seem ther are 1024 different ways that people suggest to resolve one issue or another, i haven't come across a, this is problem X and to solve problem X we perform solution Y.
Battery have +, - 2 terminals connect to the control board, You can use sharp scissor cut the the terminals, the terminal connect to the board by spot weld so de-soldering will not work. you can soldering the new battery to the original control board, it will work
if it does not turn on on adapter plugin then the problem, not in the battery, the same problem here, I replaced the battery with the same model number after that the device completely dead. I take a long time to search on the web but finally give up !
Thank you for sharing your solution, unfortunately, your video is in german not in English, can you please point to that 0.01 ohm in a board photo? and please can you give me some instructions on what you do in the video because I don't understand it.
1. when copying model elements from previous projects some of the elements that I copy either have surface overrides applied or in some cases the surfaces have been modified/deleted so when copying an element over the surface index number may by assigned to a different surface into the new project based off a clean template. i.e. same material name but different index number results in different material being applied to the element. I have found on some projects this also applies to the vector hatch assigned to the surface (fill index numbers are different)
2. Element with surface overrides - this applies to either elements created within current file or when copying from another project. Is there a way to bulk reset elements to default materials? i.e. remove surface overrides with out manually selected each element type and deselecting override?
If you make a modification in another file then be sure to import that attribute into your template as soon as possible, or make the new attribute in your template and export/import to all other files.
This won't help if the index numbers are all messed up, but if you keep on top of your template and have the 'safe' zone as I described, and base all jobs on that template it is much easier to control.
If you do this in the tool settings, and it shows as off, you have to turn it on then OK then open settings again and then turn it off and OK to reset all (as you are only seeing properties of the last element selected).
Thanks Barry for your quick and informative response. I think I follow but as you say much easier to do than explain. I'll have a go, I may have to start over with a clean template, which are always time consuming in themselves.
Let me tell you a story that may sound familiar. There was once a man who cooked a boneless skinless chicken breast. He put his skillet on the stove and turned the heat on. He added some oil and then the chicken and hoped for the best.
In this blog, I am going to show you how to preheat your pan with 100% accuracy. The rest of these subjects will be addressed in our first ever Cookware Kraze events on Sunday, January 19 at Lincoln Square and Friday, January 31 at the Merchandise Mart. At these inaugural cookware days, our chefs will perform cooking demonstrations with a focus on cookware: the right pan for the job, how to size your cookware appropriately, how to heat it, clean it, care for it and if you like, buy it at a 20% discount.
To preheat your pan with a surface thermometer, set the thermometer in the center of the pan and turn it on. I always suggest starting lower than you think you need and increasing or decreasing to achieve a steady temperature. Pro tip: I use long tongs to pick up the thermometer and move it around.
I hate to give you a solution that makes you have to purchase something, but I think the accuracy achieved will be well worth the investment. Stop by the stores anytime to see our line of thermometers and of course, we would love to see you at our upcoming cookware events and receive 20% off your cookware purchases. Mention this blog and receive 20% off your surface thermometer, too!

So I have a grading plan that is going to be submitted for review today and the surface won't show up. I switched to a different style and it shows up, such as contours and triangles, but when I switch it to the appropriate style, only the border shows up. The 2'/10' contours show up, but we are using 0.25' and 1' contours. I double checked the appropriate layers and they are all turned on.
It's definitely the Surface Style's Properties that is causing the problem. It sounds like you are checking one Surface Style but your surface has another style assigned to it. Click on your surface and look in the Properties Palette to see which style it has assigned to it. Then either change the surface style to that that you want to use or edit the Surface Style's Properties to reflect the properties that you want to use. I cannot be more precise at the moment as I do not have access to Civil 3D here and I shall not be in the office tomorrow. If that doesn't help I'm sure Blackbox will pull something out of the bag for you. Styles in C3D are a huge problem for a whole load of people, even very experienced ones, so don't feel too bad about it.
