One solution would be to create subdirectories of geodata/coverages and
geodata/data for me (this could be replicated for other case studies)
that I could upload to from offsite - I don't know if this is possible
given the firewall situation.
Another would be to allow access to the PostGIS database from offsite. I
tried this using the SPIT (Import shapefile into PostGIS) tool in QGIS,
and I believe I had all the settings correct, but the connection was
refused. I think PostGIS just needs to be set so that it will accept
offsite connections on the appropriate port. This would allow me to add
and modify shapefiles, but not rasters. That would be workable, I think,
as long as ARIES can then receive the data in the format it needs. It
would actually be easier for development than working directly with
rasters, as it is easier for me to modify attribute fields in a
shapefile than pixel values in a raster.
The final option if the above is not workable would be for me to set up
my own Geoserver on my VPS. Since I would also like to set up my own
ARIES installation, this is also quite reasonable.
Your suggestions are appreciated,
Tara
