Press Officer

The British Embassy in Israel is recruiting a Press Officer.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, eloquent and highly-motivated individual to play a key role in the Embassy’s media work. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Press Officer will be the Embassy’s key contact with both the Israeli and international media. The job-holder will liaise with the media on issues like British policy on Iran and the peace process, as well as help drive forward an ambitious programme of public events.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Establish and maintain close contacts with a wide range of Israeli and UK journalists and commentators
  • Arrange interviews for Embassy and other British officials
  • Draft and issue press releases and statements on UK policies and Embassy activities
  • Ensure wide ranging and positive media coverage for official visits and events
  • Draft op-eds and speeches for the Ambassador
  • Take part in the Embassy’s digital media presence, including the website and social media channels
  • Oversee the production of daily Israeli press summaries for senior UK policy makers.

Required experience and qualifications:

  • BA
  • At least three years of relevant experience, such as working in the media or in a PR company
  • Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
  • Knowledge of and contacts in the Israeli press
  • Experience in speech-writing – an advantage.

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Creativity, flexibility and excellent communications skills
  • Organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Interpersonal and team working skills
  • Fluency in English (excellent reading, writing and speaking) and Hebrew (highly desirable)
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team.

Other details:

  • The initial contract will be for one year, with a three-month probationary period
  • The salary will be NIS 10,954
  • Core working hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:00; Fridays 08:00 – 13:30, with some flexibility required including occasional evening events
  • Parking facilities will not be provided or paid for by the Embassy

Temporary Deputy Head of Corporate Services and HR Manager

The British Embassy in Israel is recruiting a Temporary Deputy Head of Corporate Services and HR Manager (maternity leave cover, 4 months).

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated self-starter to play a key role in the management of the essential support services for the British Embassy. The job holder will have direct responsibility for the day to day running of the Corporate Services and the wider Embassy team.

  • Gross Pay: NIS 10,954 per month
  • Core office hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:00, Friday 08:00 – 13:30
  • Start date: 15th July 2014

The contract will be for four months in the first instance, possibly extending to 6 months. Parking facilities will not be provided or paid for by the Embassy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • End of month finance reporting and authorising purchases;
  • Working closely with the Head of Corporate Services supporting a programme of change within the Corporate Services Unit;
  • Providing support in the running of the section and decision making;
  • Human Resources (40%) – will include:
    • Development and delivery of Embassy Learning & Development Strategy;
    • Delivery of Embassy Human Resources Strategy;
    • Managing Embassy Human Resources including contracts for new Local members of staff; briefing Embassy staff on latest guidance;
  • Managing the Embassy Human Resources database;
  • Line Management responsibility for: Protocol Officer and Transport Manager/Visits Assistant

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous Human Resource and management experience
  • Education: Human Resource qualification – an advantage
  • High-level organisational and administrative skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and team working skills
  • Flexibility and good communications skills
  • Tact, confidence, discretion and politeness in dealing with internal and external colleagues
  • Creativity, flexibility and ability to work well under pressure
  • Fluent in English;
  • Excellent IT skills
