I am a structural engineer who also serves as the 'IT guy' in our small office.

We have been using Argosoft Mailserver .NET version for 10+ years now. It has been running on a dedicated Windows 7 Pro computer, which we refer to as our 'email server'. The latest version of Argosoft Mailserver .NET that I could upgrade to was v. 1.1.0.8.

Since Windows 7 Pro will no longer be supported by Microsoft, I updated our email server to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1909). Of course, with the update to Windows 10 Pro, our .NET Framework is now version 4.8. It also has .NET versions v.2.0.5, v.3, v.3.5, v4, and v4.0.

I thought maybe that, with the updates to . NET Framework, I could update our Mailserver .NET. So, I uninstalled Mailserver .NET, v. 1.1.0.8 and installed v. 1.1.0.9. But, I got the same results when I started the service ...  it stopped with the following lines in the log and would not go any further:

[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Resetting outbox
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Resetting POP/IMAP Before SMTP database
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Resetting lockout manager databases
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing expired records from the lockout manager database
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing old records from the address verification cache
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing expired records from DNS Cache
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing expired records from autoresponder cache
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing expired records from greylisting database
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:56] Removing blank entries from IP filters
[SYST XXXXXX 20-12-19 08:13:57] Resetting statistics

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong or need to do to upgrade to v. 1.1.0.9 and further to v.1.2.3.0?

Again, I am a structural engineer over 50 years old with limited knowledge. Please be patient with me. :-)

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi Scott,

Do you see ArGoSoft Mail Server if you look at Services from control panel?  Can you attempt to start it from there, and then, if it fails, look in the Windows event log?

Also, do you use SQLite or SQL as database engine?

Thanks, Archie.

I uninstalled 1.1.0.8; installed 1.1.0.9; tried to start MailServer from the Services; it initially started, then stopped. The same occurred when I tried from the MailServer Controller window.

I was unable to tell what version of SQL is installed since I could not access the 'SQL Server Configuration Manager'. And, I checked both the Program Files folders and did not see a 'Microsoft SQL Server' folder. Could it be I don't have SQL installed and need to?

Thanks!

I had to reinstall 1.1.0.8 to get the mail server going again so my fellow coworkers wouldn't hurt me. :-)
