On 30 Dec 01:25 I downloaded 65 articles, but Voyager window log showed:

four /430 error, no such article/ messages.

Stepping through the !# rnews file (Newnews - weld) shows 4 missing
messages (c.s.a.m 47295-47298):

Anybody lost any messages down the black hole? Demon perhaps?

Read in Computer Weekly, 28 Nov 1996, page 16:

: Users hit by Demon Internet overload.
:
: [snip]
: Delays of at least 24 hours in receiving E-mail have been experienced by
: some customers ....
: [snip]
: The company said it has been a victim of its own success,
: [snip]
: It said it had not anticipated this level of traffic and consequently did
: not have the capacity on its servers to handle it.
: The E-mail delays follow problems over a number of months with Demon
: Internet's news servers, which have suffered hardware failures,
: problems with telecommunications links and a software bug in the
: Sun Solaris 5 Sparc servers.
: Despite the problems, Demon Internet added a new feature to its service
: this week, offring customers free audio facilities for their Web pages,
: something the company says is not offered by any other service provider.

Me too!

4 out of 6 I've posted recently have disappeared.

If you don't receive this then change that to 5 out of 7.

Audio facilities? What are they that's so rare?

Yes, I had this too!

The 430 error usually indicates postings that have subsequently been
cancelled (perhaps a group of SPAMS?), leaving "gaps" in the numbering.

As to a Demon black hole - actually I think there is a more general
Usenet black hole. Think what interesting things you could find in it!

I think that refers to realtime streaming audio such as RealAudio
and Shockwave rather than just .wav or .au.

I think they're RealAudio streams, but don't quote me on that....
