To: iq.is.i...@gmail.com

Hi Ian...

TechShop Austin
I'm in Austin, Texas for the next week or so for the 2007 Austin Maker Faire. I'll be exploring the Maker community here and meeting with potential TechShop members, investors and franchisees in preparation for our upcoming TechShop location in Austin. I will be hosting the TechShop Austin Community Meet-Up on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 PM. If you would like to attend (and you have not already RSVP'ed), please visit our web site and let me know that you will attend. If you know a hacker, inventor, or maker who lives in Austin, please tell them about the 2007 Austin Maker Faire happening this weekend, and the TechShop Austin Community Meet-Up too!

I hope to have some news for you when I return next week about TechShop locations coming soon to 10 major market cities throughout the United States!

How To Make Things out of Carbon Fiber

In this fast-paced class, you will learn the most useful basics of carbon fiber lay up, and then you will actually combine raw carbon filament cloth and 2-part high-strength epoxy to make your very own carbon fiber key fob and take it home with you.

This class focuses on the "compression molding" technique of carbon fiber fabrication. In this method, the carbon fiber and epoxy are laid up in a CNC machined aluminum key fob mold and tightly clamped together, then cured in a low-temperature oven. This is a technique you can easily use to make your own custom carbon fiber parts.

You will be surprised at how easy and inexpensive it really is to do your own carbon fiber fabrication of all sorts of parts, and you'll want to use carbon fiber for many of your projects.

'For a bulky segment of a century, I have been an avid follower of comic strips — all comic strips. This is a statement made with approximately the same amount of pride with which one would say, 'I've been shooting cocaine into my arm for the past 25 years.'' --Dorothy Parker
(Ever try looking at teenagers in context? Some of them are entertaining in their ridiculousness, some of them actually seem like genuinely cool people, and a lot of them just have no idea how lame they're being. Same deal with rock, I think.)
