The song was republished in 1859 by Oliver Ditson and Company, 277 Washington Street, Boston, with the new title "Jingle Bells; or, The One Horse Open Sleigh". The sheet music cover featured a drawing of sleigh bells around the title.[11] Sleigh bells were strapped across the horse to make the jingle, jangle sound.

Music historian James Fuld notes that (as opposed to an adjective), "the word jingle in the title and opening phrase is apparently an imperative verb."[19] In the winter in New England in pre-automobile days, it was common to adorn horses' harnesses with straps bearing bells as a way to avoid collisions at blind intersections, since a horse-drawn sleigh in snow produces almost no audible noise. The rhythm of the tune apparently mimics that of a trotting horse's bells; however, "jingle bells" is commonly interpreted to mean a certain kind of bell.

Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden ute,
Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot,
Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute.[29]

My boys are in complete Christmas mode right now and we have been having a lot of fun making simple crafts and decorating the house. We received some fun craft supplies from Craft Project Ideas and when I saw bells and fuzzy craft sticks, I knew we needed to use them to make some jingle bells for my kids (especially my youngest two) to play with and enjoy.

Oh no! We did this again this past week and it worked in 2 different jars. Are you using a can of Sprite? I wonder if a can versus a bottle of soda works better. And maybe start with just one or 2 jingle bells to see what happens??

According to History.com, the jingling bells refer to the New England sleigh races that were popular in the 1800s. After Pierpont performed the song during a Thanksgiving concert, it was officially published in 1857.

Some suggest that the use of collars on slaves with bells to send an alert that they were running away is connected to the origin of the song Jingle Bells. While we are not taking a stance to whether that is true or not, we do feel strongly that this line of thinking is not in agreement with our district beliefs to value all cultures and experiences of our students.

Throw them together and you get a jingle bells sensory bottle! This bottle is part of my winter- and Christmas-themed sensory bottle blog hop, and there are three fantastic other bottles at the bottom of this post.

In all honesty, this Christmas sensory bottle has four of my favorite things. This bottle is magnetic! When I first began making magnetic discovery bottles, I figured out this incredible discovery bottle with magnetic chips, then made a way for them not to rust with my rust-resistant discovery bottles, and now we can make awesome new ones like this jingle bell discovery bottle.

Add your craft jingle bells, then pour in some mineral oil. Mineral oil will keep your jingle bells nice and beautiful in the discovery bottle and prevent them from rusting! You can use baby oil instead too.

Are you looking for a fun activity to keep your little ones busy during the holidays? This Jingle Bells Sensory Bin will provide lots of fun for your kids as they go digging for the hidden jingle bells.

Inspiration from this project came from some jingle bells I found at the Dollar Tree. They had the smaller ones pictured above and bigger ones picture below. I was hoping to say I purchased all the supplies for this project from the Dollar Tree. Our Dollar Tree sales this decorative shred, but unfortunately they did not have any red or green on the day I was there, so I picked it up at the craft store next door. You can also buy it at a party store.

The smaller jingle bells pictured above are great for my preschooler and kindergartner and provided them with a challenge. If you have a toddler, you could use the bigger jingle bells. (As always be sure to supervise, as these could be choking hazard.)

Like I said above, this jingle bells preschool magnet science activity was in our science center for 3 weeks starting December 1. So the kiddos had a lot of time to use the magnets in many different ways!

My favorite discoveries to observe involved that same bar magnet. One of my boys realized he could see the magnet pull the jingle bells in. He stayed at the science center for almost an hour, testing how far away the magnet needed to be before it pulled the bells in.
