Little Colorado Water Conservation District - August 9

The Navajo County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider the possible establishment of the Little Colorado Water Conservation District pursuant to Title 48, Chapter 19 of the Arizona Revised Statutes and to define the boundaries of the district and determine the lands to be included. For further information see "Notice of Public Hearing on Petition to Establish "The Little Colorado Water Conservation District'" in the White Mountain Independent (July 26, 2011). The hearing will be held in the Supervisors' Chambers, Navajo County Governmental Complex, Holbrook, at 9 am on August 9. The public is invited to attend and be heard on any related matter. 

 

Forum for Our Forest - August 10

Congressman Paul Gosar (Arizona District 1) and Representative Steve Pearce (New Mexico District 2) have announced a joint "Forum for Our Forest" to be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, August 10 at the Round Valley Auditorium, 550 N. Butler Street, Eagar. The meeting will focus on forest management and wildfires, especially the recent Wallow Fire. Dry Lake II PV Solar Power Generation Facility - August 18

A Special Use Permit application for Dry Lake II Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation Facility is scheduled to be heard by the Navajo County Planning & Zoning Commission on August 18 at 6 pm in the Supervisors' Chambers, Navajo County Governmental Complex, Holbrook. It is also scheduled to be heard by the Board of Supervisors on August 23 at 9 am (same location). The project is located approximately three miles north of the Snowflake town limits, west of State Route 77. Iberdrola & RES Americas Meteorological Towers - August 23

Special Use Permit applications for Iberdrola (Pacific Wind Development) and RES Americas meteorological towers are scheduled to be heard by the Navajo County Board of Supervisors on August 23 at 9 am in the Supervisors' Chambers, Navajo County Governmental Complex, Holbrook. These types of meteorological towers are used by wind farm developers to measure the wind resource at a site before constructing a wind farm. The data help them decide whether a site is economically viable for a wind farm, and to make technical decisions. The Iberdrola application includes a single new met tower to be located between the Dry Lake I and II wind projects. The RES Americas application involves time extensions for permits that were expiring. Electronic Waste Recycling - August 27

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and its partners will hold a free e-waste recycling event on Saturday, August 27 in the parking lot of Walmart in Show Low, 5401 S. White Mountain Road, from 8 am until 1 pm. White Mountain area residents and businesses can recycle electronics such as televisions, computer equipment, monitors, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCRs, CD and DVD players, printers, small appliances, fax machines, stereos, cables and cords, as well as paper, cardboard, aluminum and tin cans and plastic containers (1, 2, and 3). Wildlife Speaker Program - August 6 & 20

On August 6 and 20 Arizona Game and Fish Department's Pinetop regional office will hold presentations in its Summer Wildlife Speaker Series. The free programs are offered at 6 pm in the Pinetop office conference room, 2878 E. White Mountain Blvd. On August 6, Dave Brown, biologist, Arizona State University, will present an overview of the key wildlife issues the Game & Fish Department has addressed over the past century. On August 20, Terry Johnson, the department's endangered species coordinator, will discuss the department's efforts to restore and recover endangered species such as the Sonoran pronghorn and others. Johnson will include in his presentation a discussion of the challenges of conservation across land ownership and management jurisdictions. Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI) Revised Proposed Action (Expected)

A "Refined Proposed Action" document will be available on the 4FRI website on August 11. 4FRI involves four national forests that are actively engaged in a collaborative, landscape-scale initiative designed to restore fire-adapted ecosystems in the Apache-Sitgreaves, Tonto, Coconino, and Kaibab national forests. The US Forest Service is working with a group of stakeholders to collaboratively plan and carry out landscape-scale restoration. Passport Potash NI 43-101 Report (Expected)
