Senator Sylvia Allen: Impacts of Alternative Energy Policies
Sylvia Allen, who is running for re-election to the Arizona State Senate, has graciously agreed to talk to us about key problems facing our society, the state, and our area, with a special focus on the impacts of different approaches to energy issues. She will tell us about her concerns related to alternative energy policies, such as cap-and-trade programs designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and she will present video clips from a hearing she coordinated on cap and trade for the Senate.
Kristine Uhlman: Study of Groundwater in the Snowflake-Concho Area
Kristine Uhlman and her collaborators
from the University of Arizona will present their plans for a study of
groundwater in the Snowflake-Concho area. The study, which will begin in
September, involves analyzingthe water from selected
wells and working with stakeholder groups to look at alternative scenarios
for sustainable water management. The team plans to weave together information
about water age and quality, the impacts of drought, usage demands, and
different approaches to water management. Uhlmans group will focus on
the potential impacts of future uses, and address issues related to the
water-energy nexus.
