As you may be aware, Navajo County has spent the better part of the past year discussing and learning about various issues associated with Renewable Energy (primarily wind). This includes numerous meetings, conferences, conversations, e-mails and phone calls on not only the Ordinance itself, but also on the various projects that have taken place that proposed the generation of electricity through renewable resources (such as wind, solar, etc.).

We have reviewed countless articles, ordinances, letters, documents, and other research on renewable energy.

And we have also sought comment from the public, land owners, representatives from the renewable energy industry, other government agencies, etc. We even hired a consulting firm with a significant background in renewable energy to assist us in the drafting of this Ordinance.

Attached is the culmination of this effort – a draft copy of the "Renewable Energy Generation Facilities" Ordinance.

Please note that the draft Ordinance is meant to be inserted into, and be a part, of the Navajo County Zoning Ordinance, as a subsection to Article 20 (Special Use Permits). As such is subject to the requirements of that Article and the Zoning Ordinance itself.

Comments or suggestions to the draft Ordinance will be taken in one of three ways: e-mail, in writing, or in person. No phone comments will be taken.

E-mail comments or suggestions can be made to: REPublic...@NavajoCountyAZ.gov. Please do not send any comments to other Navajo County e-mail addresses.

Written comments or suggestions can be mailed to: P.O. Box 668, Holbrook, AZ  86025

Comments or suggestions can also be made in person at the Work Session noted below, or at any of the subsequent public hearings before the Planning & Zoning Commission (Thursday, August 19th – 6:00 p.m.), and/or the Board of Supervisors (Tuesday, August 24th – 9:00 a.m.). All work sessions, meetings and hearings are to be held in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Navajo County Governmental Center in Holbrook, Arizona.

As mentioned above, we have scheduled a Work Session for next Tuesday, July 27th, 2010, beginning at 1:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, at the Navajo County Governmental Complex in Holbrook, Arizona.

At the work session, Navajo County staff will provide an overview of the proposed Ordinance. You are also welcome and invited to offer your comments and suggestions at the Work Session, or at any of the upcoming public hearings on the proposed Ordinance.

Thanks,

Navajo County Public Works Department
