Would you like to know more about alternatives to the mainstream housing market? Are you frustrated by the lack of options outside of buying and private renting? Would you like to meet people who are creating their own homes through community-led housing?
At RUSS we have spent the past five years developing a different housing model in which community groups can create genuinely affordable housing. We are currently working with our local authority to produce homes that are genuinely affordable, sustainable, can enable self-build and are co-designed by the residents.
We are running a one-day workshop on community-led housing on: Saturday 15 July.
At: The Building Centre, Store Street, London WC1E 7BT.
Time: 10.30-4.
The purpose of this workshop is to share the lessons we have learned with other aspiring community groups and housing practitioners and to contribute towards creating a community-led housing movement in the UK.
RUSS has faced many challenges and has had to come up with creative and robust solutions to gaining access to land and working through the housebuilding process. RUSS is by no means perfect or finished. We have progressed our vision to the planning permission stage and still have a long way to go. However we believe we have some valuable lessons to pass on to those embarking on a similar journey.
I will be presenting the workshop alongside RUSS organisers and special guests:
Jon Broome - leading architect working in community self-build
John Struthers - of the Headway Self Build Group Collective
Emma Gittus - former Project Manager of RUSS
The workshop is priced at £50 with all proceeds going towards RUSS, which is a registered charity.
