RE: Arelle/Xule Performance Issue

Hello all,

 

I had previously been in contact with a member from Arelle support who suggested I reach out to this audience. I am running into an issue when validating my file against the latest EFM and XULE plugins where Arelle goes into a not responding state and reaches 7+GB of memory. In particular, I am trying to validate a file using the 2025 oef taxonomy with the new AccmVal tag (sample attached). Running from the Arelle application or via command line with the following command produces the issue.

 

arelleCmdLine.exe -f "{xhtmlFilePath}" --factTable="{factTableFilePath}" --logfile="{validationFilePath}" -v --logfilemode=w --efm --plugins="validate/efm|EdgarRenderer"

 

Arelle Versions impacted (2.37.3, 2.37.6, 2.37.20, 2.37.22)

Xule Versions impacted (3.0.30047, 3.0.30049)

 

Additional information, this same file but referencing the 2024 name spaces and using AcctVal validates in ~10 seconds.

I was able to recreate the issue with the following discoveries:

• Xule validation appears to hang indefinitely, but did eventually complete after ~13 minutes
• Xule validation hangs while validating DQC.US.0084.9298, making more than 5 million property evaluations in the process
  • Validation of this rule appears to happen at least twice, seemingly duplicating the 5 million evaluation effort

• Xule validation does not appear to ultimately trigger any warnings or errors
• I haven't been able to complete a fast, clean run with the various 2025 EDGAR/Arelle/xule version combinations I've tried.
