Hello, all. Although I’m an experienced software developer I have just begun working on a project that will involve XBRL and SEC filings, and am totally new to this world. Some questions:

  • Where can I find additional XBRL discussion groups, communities, and resources? Are there any user groups, conferences, etc.?
  • Regarding Arelle, I noticed that the data set that’s available stops at 2014. Is that due just to a lack of available open source contributor time, or is there another reason? Has the schema changed much since then?
  • Is there somewhere else I could find more recent data that’s also digested for input into a DB?
  • Any other general advice for a novice, such as products/projects other than Arelle for parsing, ingesting, querying, etc. of XBRL that you would recommend my looking at?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Keith,

The XBRL discussion groups, user groups, etc., are all under XBRL International and XBRL-US.

see xbrl.us <http://xbrl.us/> (for US issues) and
xbrl.org <http://xbrl.org/> (for the main global standard)

The data base is huge - if you need a current dump file, I’ll make one for you, send a private e-mail, and let me know what format (bin, sql, etc).  The database is up to date daily.  XBRL-US also has a database (not digested, just the filings).
