Area Coordinators,

Please share with your area.

The Texas 4‑H Homes for Horses Program is an educational and service‑based initiative focused on connecting youth with horses in need. Through the program, students adopt or are placed with a horse from a participating rescue, then work to rehabilitate, train, and prepare that horse for a successful transition into a long‑term home. Along the way, they develop skills in horsemanship, animal care, training, and communication, while also gaining a deeper understanding of responsible horse ownership and industry challenges.
The program culminates at the Texas State 4‑H Horse Show with a showcase and adoption event, but the primary focus is really on the process: education, stewardship, and advocacy for horses in need. It’s been a meaningful experience for our participants and has resulted in a number of successful horse placements while providing youth with a unique, hands‑on learning opportunity.

I wanted to let you know that applications for the 2026–2027 Texas 4‑H Homes for Horses Program are now open. As we begin recruiting participants for the upcoming year, I wanted to check in and see whether you've received any feedback from the chapters you shared the program's information with.

We would love to welcome Texas FFA members into the program this year, if possible. I believe the program aligns well with the hands-on learning, animal stewardship, and leadership experiences that FFA students value.
