Hi there,

Is there a way to build an arduinoboy from scratch without using the
commercially available I/O board and protoshield? (i.e. using an
ATmega168 and all required components)

If so, has anyone designed a PCB layout for such a circuit so I can
etch one myself?

The reason I ask is purely for cost reasons (plus I like DIY). I don't
have much spare cash and I think building the circuit from scratch
would be a lot cheaper. I can get the microcontroller flashed with the
required firmware by someone I know.

Cheers!
Nathan

Hi,

I succeeded doing that with an atmega328 by following this guide:

I left out all the usb and programming stuff.. just programmed it on an uno board and put it in the standalone circuit.
It worked fine with arduinoboy.. tested with mgb

I'm wondering now though, if its possible to make an arduinoboy with an atmega8 or atmega168.. those are a bit cheaper.
