This came up on a couple social media channels, but Ax Man bought ABC Electronics in Minneapolis. This is sad for a lot of reasons, namely that Minneapolis is sort of empty of electronics components stores now (although I had never heard of ABC Electronics) but if you are ever looking for any kind of resistor, capacitor or a lot of other stuff, check out Ax Man's St Paul location!

Looking forward to seeing you all at IOT Hack meet and greet and the Hack Day :D

Wow, I heard about it, but these pictures are amazing.  Way more than I expected.  This is great!

ABC was an AWESOME store just off Washington and 7th. I have shopped there for 30+ years. This is really heartbreaking actually. They always had special relay or switch or capacitor I needed and often times there were great deals on test Equipment. But In later years, Pete’s Daughter Sara started showing them how to sell on eBay and eventually took over all eBay selling and soon that was outpacing all other sales. So the store got smaller and smaller. They had been trying to sell that Building for years I had heard and well. They must have finally found a buyer.

I love axman don’t get me wrong and I think it’s great the St. Paul store will be a fraction of its former glory once again with all of ABC’s inventory. But…We are one less surplus store. Once upon a time we had many surplus stores! Acme Electronics reigned supreme on Washington ave. 3M had a surplus store, Crazy Louis was just down the road from Axman, even Honeywell had a short lived surplus store! And they were ALL awesome! I can still smell the Acme smell and hear the wooden floors creak underfoot. I remember buying bags of Tape Reels from 3M, Crazy Louie’s had the most awesome A-Z selection you had ever seen, Including a Duesenberg! And Axman in St. Paul was FULL of electronics of every sort. And watching the Upsi, Downsie, Turnsie, Roundsie Machine was cool!

I will cry a  long hard tear the day Axman is no longer that is for sure! LONG LIVE AXMAN!....Please

There's so much electronics/technology/maker history right here in Minnesota. Thank you for sharing Kristina and the background Dave. I was not aware of any of this. Let's keep it strong by purchasing from these local establishments where we can. For those participating in IoTHackDay on Oct 17th, you'll be approx 1.5 miles from the Axman Saint Paul location. That will be damn convenient if there's anything you need to run over and pickup!
