So the deadline is rapidly approaching.

I am keen to push this forward myself.. any other that are actively
interested in doing the legwork and presenting/putting it together?

I might start writing up a proposal.. based on the DX stuff I think it
is completely workable financially. I think the main trouble will be
getting the word out to the participants, etc.

Yes ... and at a scary rate !

Recently, Luke Weston designed and created a prototype board for an
Arduino shield that contains an LCD, Zigbee, sensors and relays.

The project artifacts, including board description and schematics, can
be found on GitHub ...

Here is a photograph of the working prototype ...

This is currently running the Aiko (event driven Arduino framework)
software ...

This project is along the lines discussed for the Arduino Open
Hardware mini-conference in previous emails. Something that could be
built in the morning and used for software applications in the
afternoon. These boards could also be pre-built for those not
comfortable making hardware (or who don't complete the morning session
with a working board).

I'm happy to help flesh-out the proposal in whatever direction we all
agree. And, also happy to commit to helping out with the morning
session and preparing a software application tutorial for the
afternoon.

Note: Even if the LCA submission is based on what we have now ... I'm
sure that we'd iterate and make improvements over the next 5 or so
months.

Definitely. I let things sit for a bit but prompted by your email (and
private email from Phil and others) I've just done a rough draft of a
proposal. It's on the Google Group now as a page.

Cheers :-)

The draft miniconf proposal mentions assembly of a shield, and that's
exactly the shield I happened to have in mind.
