I've just changed the miniconf wiki page to indicate that we're at
capacity for the assembly tutorial, but that we can probably take a few
more people if they don't want to do their own assembly. I've generated
picklists for all participants and been busy packaging stuff up: my
kitchen table is covered in a bundle of parts for each person, each with
associated paperwork.
Here's where we are right now.
Total:
* 29 registrations via the form
Soldering experience:
* 4 have no soldering experience at all
* 16 have basic soldering experience
* 9 have good soldering experience
* 0 are soldering ninjas
Arduino experience:
* 13 have no Arduino experience at all
* 13 have basic Arduino experience
* 2 have good Arduino experience
* 1 are Arduino ninjas
Pebble:
* 5 requests for bare kits
* 21 requests for half-assembled kits
* 5 requests for fully-assembled boards
* 2 requested no kit and to be paired up
Extras:
* 14 Arduinos requested
* 8 USB cables requested
* 9 USB 240V-to-5V plug packs requested
* 23 XBee modules requested
* 12 XBee Explorers requested
Tools:
* 8 people can BYO tools
Payment:
* $3193 total payable by attendees
* $2490 paid so far by attendees
* $2427.98 paid by attendees after Paypal fees
Check out that XBee module count. We're going to be able to do some
pretty serious mesh networking and it'll be very interesting to see how
it all behaves with 23+ nodes in close proximity.
Oh, and just to sign off with a bit of bragging: Practical Arduino hit
#1 ranking this morning in the "software" category on Amazon (and #2 in
"electronics"). Woot! Arduino is obviously a hot topic.
Cheers :-)

Got my copy!
I'm slightly embarrassed by my entry at the front of the book, it's
_way_ out of proportion to my contribution.
Haven't had a chance to read it all yet, but my Boss is already
interested in the car project, are you doing kits? I seem to remember
something about that on your blog.
Thanks for the chance to contribute!

Don't be embarrassed. I personally learned a huge amount from all the
feedback provided by the tech reviewers, including yourself.

I've been approached by both Adafruit and Toys Down Under about doing
kits, so it's pretty likely to happen. I'm just not sure yet *how* it
will happen.
