Welcome to the Arduino / Insteon discussion list. I thought this list might be handy for more detailed discussion of this topic and I've invited all those who have received one of the test Arduino Insteon Shields.

For those of you who have recently received a shield in the mail. I've made a couple changes to the wiki which may be helpful to you. The first is a much better description of the jumper settings for the board (including more detailed images):

And the second is some simple sketches that test the basic features of the board (Insteon communication, relays, contact sensing, button etc). You can find those sketches at the top of this wiki page:

They are in zip format (unfortunately the wiki doesn't "like" .ino files). My apologies for that. If you have any trouble unzipping them please let me know ( alan[at] goodrobot [dot] com) and I can send them to you directly.

Alan

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for signing up to the list along with everyone else who has joined. If anyone wants to share a quick snapshot about themselves and/or their interest in Insteon, it might be useful to do a round of introductions. From the exchanges I've had so far, some are getting started with a handful of Insteon devices while others have some sophisticated systems already in use at home.

...to kick things off. Right now my Insteon system at home includes a wireless contact sensor, 2 motion sensors, 5 light switches and a handful of plug-in relays. I'm running both the arduino w/ shield as well as an experimental version of what may be another controller (more about that later).  As you already know, my main interest in all of this is related to my startup company (focused on building home automation and monitoring systems for elderly caregiving). But I'm a big DIY and arduino fan, so I'm excited to see applications/use in general home automation.

Love to hear more from others about what you're working on or your interests in home automation.

Alan
