Hi there,

Thought some of you would enjoy this one.

Build your own dashboard iPod controller with an Arduino: http://lifehac.kr/jS9q

Cheers,

Martin

Thanks for creating this group! Should prove helpful.

Welcome to the Arduino / Insteon discussion list. I thought this list might be handy for more detailed discussion of this topic and I've invited all those who have received one of the test Arduino Insteon Shields.

For those of you who have recently received a shield in the mail. I've made a couple changes to the wiki which may be helpful to you. The first is a much better description of the jumper settings for the board (including more detailed images):

And the second is some simple sketches that test the basic features of the board (Insteon communication, relays, contact sensing, button etc). You can find those sketches at the top of this wiki page:

They are in zip format (unfortunately the wiki doesn't "like" .ino files). My apologies for that. If you have any trouble unzipping them please let me know ( alan[at] goodrobot [dot] com) and I can send them to you directly.

Alan

Martin, that arduino project looks really cool. I looked at how they managed to connect to the ipod and it reminded me of great little breakout board I saw on ebay that makes it much easier to electrically connect to ipod/iphone:

Might be a really interesting way to experiment with connecting an iphone or other device to arduino for home automation too, and for $8 it's not bad for experimenting with.

If you are interested in communication from iPhone to arduino there is a book/videos from o'reilly that I just recently purchased. They use the red park serial cable which may be similar to this.

Red park serial cable seems like it'd be handy, and a smaller chance of me accidentally destroying my iphone by making a wrong connection with the ebay board (Note: I did fry at least one Insteon serial modem before I sorted out the pins on it, so I know it can happen).  Definitely post to the list if you try any of the experiments in the O'Reilly book, especially anything related to home automation.
