I don't have a legal background but can share a couple of points based on past experience -
- This petition is usually a scare tactic to make us comply to their wishes. If we decide to challenge this, we will likely win. Also it might take a long time for the matter to be settled, so status quo will remain which is in our favour.
- If they are citing inconvenience, we can cite safety concerns (even quoting the robberies in the past).Anybody will more inclined towards safety than some inconvenience.
- Now the tough part about legal help. If there is a lawyer among us who is willing to take this up probono for the common good, then it would be ideal. If not, then we need to figure out how to arrange funds. I don't think filing a reply would cost more than
5K - 10K as it is at the district level and maybe a similar amount per hearing if it does go into litigation.
