Hi all,
I am constructing a .pcp file as opposed to using simulated data from SWAT but I can't figure out the formatting of the daily .pcp file (page 136 SWAT Input/Output Documentation). I have attempted a number of different versions, all to no avail. Would it be possible for someone to upload an example .pcp file so I can take a look and figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,

Attach is an example .pcp file.
I hope it can be useful for you.
Currently there is no SWAT Input/Output Documentation for version 2012.
I think it will be released by Srini in the near future.

Best Regards,
Liem

Hi Liem,

Thanks for the file. One quick question however- I don't have rain gauge data for the entire simulation period so I have place -99 values in place of those I don't. Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,

No problem, SWAT will generate weather data when measured data is missing.
You can download global weather data from 1979-2010 on the website: http://globalweather.tamu.edu/

I hope you to succeed,
Best Regards,
Liem

-- Just to be clear -- the Input/Output manual (on p. 136) is giving the format for the text-file format that the SWAT executable will read from the txtinout folder.  It is generally far simpler to enter the data using ArcSWAT, which will read the data from a friendlier format and write the text files for you.  But, this would probably require re-writing all other input files as well, which perhaps you don't want to do.
-- As a work-around, you could copy your project, use ArcSWAT to write the new precip files, and copy the new ones from the new txtinout folder to your original txtinout folder.  (And then just trash your project copy -- you don't need anything else from it.)
-- Finally -- you've got example pcp files in your txtinout folder already, which should make the format apparent, no?
-- I avoid generated precip values at all costs (I'll fill missing gaps from nearby stations, if at all possible), but if you do use them, don't expect to calibrate to them, unless you've got a long enough time window (a year? longer?) for average values to be meaningful.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this kind of format would work for use in ArcSWAT- (se attached .txt example) you import the 'masterfile' into the SWAT interface in ArcMap. I also have both the SWAT exe and ArcSWAT set up to run. I find it helps to switch between the two in case one has an error. Usually the other can correct it or make it an easier find and debug.

And no I went through my txtinout folder and no .pcp file. I'm guessing this is because I was previously running the entire weather data as simulated using a custom Weather Generator Data table?

And I figured out where it was going wrong- one of my station names had an error in it. Thanks for the help.

hello jonathan,
i have the same issue, i am running swat model first time for runoff simulation initially, i kept all option to "SIMULATION" while i am adding weather generator data, but now i want to make a run with observed precipitation and temperature data,yi had made neccessary changes needed in the master watershed file (.cio), but i dont know where to put these daily precipitation and temperature record files for different weather stations,so that these records can be used in the simulation please tell me how did you overcome this problem.
i am waiting for your positive response.
thank you for helppiing me.
