Creating HRUs: determine slope and threshold

Hello,

I am on the step in creating HRUs where slope needs to be determines. How do I know what I should set the bands to? Also, when filtering the HRUs by land use, soil, and slope I am seeing it is standard in a lot studies to set all of them to 10%. What is the rational here?
