Hi,
I have to study streamflow
simulated by Arcswat.I have run swat for the time series of 1980_2019.and caliberated for the time 2013_2019,as i have the observed data for that time.

Now i want to analyze climate change scenario upto 2100 for the same basin in acrcswat and then caliberate it,i do not understand from where to start,i have downloaded cmip5 data for preciptation and temprature.

Will be grateful to for any suggestions.

Thank you

Hello,
First things first: Did you validate your model (after calibrating)?
If your model is calibrated with SWAT-CUP, I remember Karim wrote a "how-to" on climate change scenarios, I would follow his advise.
If you want to use just SWAT, then you have to do the following:
- prepare the TMP, PCP, SLR, HMD, WND files for future scenarios (or WGN, if you do not have some of the inputs);
- copy them to your project folder (basically, replace your original ones);
- modify the file.cio with the new dates;
- run swat.

Good luck,
Natalja

P.S. be sure to do the downscaling and bias-correction of your climate data (depending on the region and climate model).

Thank you for your reply.
1.I did not validate my model after calibration,is it a must?
2.I calibrated with SWAT -CUP,
I am not sure whether I have to replace the original weather files (1980-2019) and replace it with new weather files of time series 2019-2100(predicated weather data)?

I inserted once the future date and tried to run the program ,it gives error that i can not enter the date ahead.

Thank you again

Hello,
1 - yes, you have to validate your model;
2 - either replace the files, or just make new ones which have the entire time-frame: 1980-2100 ; 1980-2019 your original data, and 2019-2100 - from the climate output.

Best,
Natalja

Hello Pth and Natalja,

A pleasant day.

Thank you so much for this trend, it really help me.
May I raised a few questions?.
1.I generate a climate change model from CMIP5, getting a future TMP and PCP. What should I do on the variable SLR, HMD, and WND in the input tab of the weather station?
2. In running the model, is it okay to run the entire year example 1961-2100? or only the future?

Respectfully,

Warda

Hello,
1. You need also slr, hmd and wnd. Either extract the outputs for those variables from your climate model as well, or use the "simulated" option. If you do the later, be sure to update the WGEN files with future statistics, and adjust the CO2 concentrations, if you want to go all the way.
2. It's okay, I do that as well. The model is then initiated with real data and continues with projections.
Best,
Natalja

Hi, I was reading this thread, I have a validated swat model and I want to simulate it for future and I have prepared the pcp1 and tmp1 files but I dont know in which folder to replace these files can you help me in this regard ?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
Locate your model folder, usually called txtinout - and replace the files there. Be sure to make a backup beforehand!
Best,
Natalja

Estimated ArcSwat Users I already have my model calibrated (1993 - 2000) r = 0.72 and validated (2001 - 2009) r = 78 I have daily future scenarios for 2012-2070 I want to incorporate it into my model but I don't really know how to do it.
