Hi everyone,

Wanted to know if there is way to add a diversion channel in SWAT? I have a diversion channel that carries water from one river to a retention pond on anther river during floods. I also have a SMART tunnel on another river that has a retention pond at the top of it and one at the bottom, during flooding the tunnel has an automated system, where when the water reaches a certain flow the retention pond gates open and water enters it and then it is carried by the tunnel to the pond at the bottom and away from the river in the flood prone area. So is there a way to enter these diversion channels ?

I know how to transfer water from one reach to another, but I don't think this is the same as having a diversion channel, and also the transfer function is only from reach or reservoir to another reach or reservoir, there no option to transfer water to a pond.

I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.

Regards,
Majid.

Hello,
This can be done in SWAT+.
In swat2012 you will need to use the water transfer function. As rightly stated, you will need to find a channel (reach) that drains to the pond (if any) and then do the transfer to that reach. If no such reach is available, then you will have to model your pond as a reservoir, and create a "virtual" reach, transfer/divert the water there, which in-turn drains to the pond (which is modeled like a reservoir).
Anyway, there is no straightforward way of doing this in swat2012
Best,
Natalja
