Dear all

We have just started a project where we will set up SWAT for a number
of watersheds draining to the Baltic Sea. We have a FAO soil map. I've
heard that a link should exist betweeen FAO soil types and required
SWAT soils data (i.e. number of soil layers, max. rooting depth,
textural information, available water content, hydraulic conductivity,
USLE-k). Does anyone have knowledge on this?

Best regards

HANS

Hans,
there are some common files in general. For more information on that
you shoud set up SWAT then find the user.soil in C>program
file>arcswat>database>usersoil to compare them.
Good luck,
John-L

Why not to publish or at least post here some conversions between the classes. I wonder how the FAO soil option for ArcSWAT is doing. In the last world conference I heard some plans, but nothing concrete came with the latest ArcSWAT updates.

I think the FAO soil types are defined in MW SWAT soil database. So what we did was copy MW SWAT soil database into our SWAT database. Then it was no problem running the model.
