Hello SWAT Group,

This is a hardware question rather than the usual software question. I'm going to be out in the field all summer but still need to work on my thesis and was wondering what some of you think are the processing requirements for a laptop to be able to run ArcGIS and ArcSWAT. And if some of you already use laptops for your SWAT use maybe some suggestions on brands and models. My budget is around $1000; additionally I've looked at some of the threads out there already just thought I would get the opinion of this group. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Dear friend,

I had an experience with this model "HP ProBook 4540s ". The processing for ArcGIS was very good and the price is around $730. Of course, Many new models released but I think is it suitable. You can find more details about this laptop. Hope you will finish your thesis successfully.

Regards,
Iman

That's good to know, everything I've been reading is saying at very minimum an i7 processor and 8gb of ram, but you seemed to be able to pull it off on less. Thanks.

Dear
It is good question. I don't think so to cost or allocate 1000$ for laptop to run  ArcSWAT. Be cost effective. Therefore, to your thesis starting from CI 3 Toshiba or HP and the like laptops will enough to run the model. However, laptops that have high processing speed will lower your time that you take time during calibration or validation. In addition, consider your watershed area in such cases. Definitely it is more than enough for a laptop to cost 500$. Cause I have seen the model in Intel core i3 Toshiba ( 4 GB memory,32 bit, 500 GB hard drive )  at the same time in Cosmo Toshiba (16GB memory, 64 bit, 1 Tera hard drive). But no more significant difference. Don't forget to clean up your laptop as like as your room during any processing.

Thank you very much

Actually, It depends on your project too. If your region is very large, you need a higher processor. Overall, I agree with Mekuanint's advice.

Hello,
I'm running several models on my laptop, the largest is 190k sq.km basin. The laptop handles well. I have a 3-year old Asus n56v series with some extra RAM, a 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processor and a SSD as a main working drive (total cost was ~750$). So with a budget of 1000$ you are more than fine.

Regards,
Natalja
