Dear SWAT users,

I'm having an issue with the format of the output.rch file. Concerning the FlowOut tab in the output.rch file, if i select the monthly time step check box in SWAT, does the Flowout in column 7 of the output.rch file correspond to the total amount of streamflow out of that sub-basin or is it the average daily streamflow value in cms as described by the documentation. In any case, how can i get the total monthly and yearly Flowout from a subbasin for calibration?

Regards,
Stefan

The documentation is correct -- output is a cms averaged over the selected output time period.  It is up to you to convert this to the units you desire.  Personally, I usually convert my observed values to those used by SWAT, so I do the conversion once, rather than after every SWAT run.
Best,
-- Jim

Thanks for the reply JIM. my actual observed flow data are in m3/s which i understand is the same as cms as the one used in the SWAT output.rch file. However, my data are considerably smaller than the observed one. does swat actually compute the sum of all the daily average for one month or is it just the daily average for the sub basin?

SWAT determines the flow rate for each day, for each reach (subbasin).  For monthly output, it would calculate the average of those daily values for each month.  The sum of daily flow rates would be nearly meaningless.

FYI:

"m3/s which i understand is the same as cms as the one used"

cms is just another abbreviation; cumecs and m3⋅s−1 are also appropriate.

Just make sure you don't have "print log flow" checked in your swat setup. I thought it would print a log (or some output) of flow, but it is actually giving results as log(flow).

Hi Stefan, did you find a solution to this? I am facing the same problem. My observed values are like : 400.444,500.66, etc. while my output file reads values as :0.9322, etc. You get my point I hope.

Same Problem, observed are 299-300, simulated are just 0.9 or 2

i also am facing the same problem, the perennial base flow is not being simulated by arcswat, and how can we make that happen?
