Hello,

I am still using ArcGIS 9.3.1 with ArcSwat v2009.93.7b. The project I am working on is near its end and I intend to upgrade to ArcGis10.0 or ArcGIS 10.1 and ArcSWAT 2012.

As I might need to go back to my set-up, I was wondering if there are any incompatibilities before proceedind.

Can I open a project made with ArcSWAT v2009.93.7b (ArcGIS 9.3.1) directly with ArcGIS 10.0 with ArcSwat 2009? Or do I need to import the project?

and

Can I open a project made with ArcSWAT v2009.93.7b (ArcGIS 9.3.1) directly with ArcGIS 10.1 (usually coupled with ArcSwat 2012)? Can I import the project?

Thank you,

Isabelle

I am wondering the same thing. Input from an experience user would be appreciated.

I just heard from Elias Bekele (ISWS) that ArcSWAT2012 cannot read ArcSWAt2009 files.

Hi,

There is a problem with Versions and it ArcSWAT2012 can not read ArcSWAT2009.
I was working on project with ArcSWAT2009 and finished the project and I though I might update with the newer version of ArcSWAT but now here comes the problem. The new version (ArcSWAT2012) does not read the old version.

If any one has a found a solution to this problem. Let me know

ArcSWAT2012 is not compatible with ArcSWAT2009.
If you are using ArcSWAT2009, it is better to stay with this version before upgrading to SWAT2012.
There are enough changes in the model and interface that the upgrade can't be done easily. Also in new ArcSWAT2012, there is no longer  precipitation and temperature files are displayed and no longer use ArcGIS libraries to assign them. This helps to move away from needing ArcGIS beyond HRU delineation and users can change weather input without needing to rewrite the input tables, thus keep all the calibrated parameters. Hope this makes sense.

However, if you are starting a new project or started very recently, certainly recommend to upgrade to SWAT2012 and ArcSWAT2012.

If you create a project with 10.1 version of arcgis using ArcSWAT2012, you need to go to file, save a copy menu to save the mxd document for 10.0 version to share with someone else who may have arcgis 10.0 with arcswat 2012.

If you must upgrade to ArcSWAT2012, I would recommend creating the project from scratch (you can use predefined watershed boundary to keep the subbasin configuration the same) using the same datasets used during ArcSWAT2009 project.

However after creating the default project files, you can save and close the new project created in ArcSWAT2012, then open the project.mdb and carefully copy/import the parameters used in ArcSWAT2009 to ArcSWAT2012.

some tables columns have changed, so do not simply import old ArcSWAT2009 tables into ArcSWAT2012 project.mdb
this will not work. I know this is not a neat solution. But it can work if it is done carefully.

Hope this helps.

Srini:

Thanks for the suggestions...we don't seem to have ArcGIS 9.3 around, so we're trying to port the files to 10.1. Can you possibly answer these questions?

Can you give any guidance as to which files have changed?
