Hello Group

I need some assistance with D2D R 16 update 5. even before updating to update 5 i have been getting the following warning
"Merge session is skipped because the session is locked by another operation. Verify if any recovery points are mounted and dismount them."
I checked the Mounted sessions and there are none.
I updated to update 5 thinking that this might fix the problem, but it doesn´t.
My operating system is Windows 7 Professional SP1 32 bit, running on a Lenovo T61 Laptop with 3 GB RAM

Any help will really appreciated.

Best Regards

Carlos Alberto Cruz.

Hi Carlos,

In the Home page of D2D do you see a message under Status Summary->Recovery Points similar to :

Recovery point X:\xxxxxxxx\Server Name\VStore\S0000000xxx\ is mounted, so it cannot be merged now.

If the above message appears in the Home Page of D2D then you need to browse the backup destination from Windows Explorer, right-click on the backup destination and select the “Change to Windows Normal View" option.

Following is the extracts from D2D User Manual,  goo.gl/VcNFa :-

“During the time that you are in the ARCserve D2D View mode, the merge/purge process for retaining the maximum number of recovery points will be disabled. As a result, CA ARCserve D2D will continue to save recovery points beyond the specified number of recovery points until you exit the ARCserve D2D View and return to the Windows Normal View. When you exit the ARCserve D2D View, all retained recovery points beyond the specified number will then be merged/purged.”

Additionally please verify the steps documented in the Troubleshooting section of the D2D User Guide - http://goo.gl/vS1rp

Let me know if this doesnot help resolve the issue.

Regards,

Ajay

Hello Aj:

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I have been unable to solve it with the instructions given.
1. The are no Mounted Recovery Points
2. The recovery points folders, viewed through the windows explorer, is for windows explorer and not for D2D
3. Even though I have set 5 recovery points, since they cannot be merge the accumulated recovery points count add up to 42.

Any further help woud be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Carlos Alberto.

Has there been any resolution to this?  I have two workstation PC's that exhibit this same behaviour and I know no mount point is mounted.

Both PC's are WIndows XP.

The only workaround I know of to fix it is to delete all the backup directory for that PC and start over with a full backup.

Hi Bobcomer,

Support has detected that I had D2D installed previously, and also a Beta version of the new D2D.
I´m still waiting for a resolution
Best regards

Carlos Alberto.

Thanks, I hope they can figure out what's going on.  I can, of course, send some logs too if they want them.

I know these 2 PC's never had the beta, or anything else than R16.

Hi Carlos,

An email was sent to you yesterday with some recommendations, you
should have received it from Technica...@ca.com.

From the logs we reviewed we observed that you previously had ARCserve
D2D On Demand and ARCserve D2D Post-r16 Alpha release installed in the
same system and were backing up to the same destination.

Please change the backup destination and start with a new backup set,
it’s not recommended to continue backing up to the same destination
which has recovery points created by ARCserve D2D On Demand and
ARCserve D2D Post-r16 Alpha Release using ARCserve D2D R16.0.

You can perform the following steps to change the backup destination
and start with a new backup set:-

1) Log into the D2D Home Page
2) Launch the D2D backup settings
3) Under Protection settings, specify the new backup destination.
While specifying the new destination please make sure you do not point
it to a location which already had pervious recovery points. Also make
sure you select the radio button which specifies the next backup type
as full backup.

You can also refer the following section of the User Guide:-
https://support.ca.com//cadocs/0/CA%20ARCserve%20D2D%20r16-ENU/Bookshelf_Files/HTML/usergde/cad2d_specify_backup_destination.htm

Let us know if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Ajay
